Preventing and combating outbreaks of diseases requires a good understanding of underlying causes as well as close cooperation to be successful. Given the close relations between humans, animals and environment this requires an interdisciplinary approach integrating factors from sociology, animal science and medicine. This interdisciplinary field of study, known as One Health, has been around for a long time, according to some even since the days of Aristotle. However, as the corona pandemic has further emphasized, it has become increasingly essential to consider these factors on an international scale as the world grows more connected. Good multidisciplinary research and international cooperation will therefore be essential to face our current and future health challenges.
These subjects will be discussed during our online lecture with Ludo Hellebrekers en Kitty Maassen. Ludo Hellebrekers is a professor at Wageningen University and an expert on Global One Health. Kitty Maassen is the head of COHESIVE, an initiative of the RIVM that aims to stimulate international cooperation in One Health.
This talk will be livestreamed on our Facebook page and YouTube channel and will be accessible for everyone to watch. You will be able to ask the speakers your questions in the chat! The set-up of this event will be altered in line with the COVID-19 measures at the time it will take place. Please stay tuned for any alterations if possible and/or necessary.
