Heart of the Matter: Inequality in the Medical World?

Tuesday September 21st 2021 | 19:45 – 21:15 | Café Hemingway

Even though we are all living longer and healthier lives than ever, there are still inequalities when it comes to medical care. We are increasingly able to diagnose and treat disease, however medical research is still more often done on men than on women. As a result, medical care is often unfairly tailored to the male body. For example, complaints, diagnosis, and treatment of heart problems differ between men and women. As a result, the so-called ‘atypical’ symptoms are noticed less quickly, sometimes with a fatal outcome. What can the medical world do about this? What steps have already been taken? Which ones still need to be set? This and more will be discussed with Angela Maas, cardiologist and professor at Radboud University, specializing in women’s hearts.

This evening will be free of charge. It will be in-person, but due to COVID-19 measures we only have limited capacity. This is also subject to change depending on the governmental measures.

We have a limited number of places due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Because this event is part of the SIB-Utrecht introduction period, first-year members of SIB will have priority over members from other years. We kindly ask you to sign up. If you did sign up and didn’t make it to the list, you’ll get an email from us.
