Workshop: Make up your Mind!

Tuesday April 13th 2021 | 20:00 – 21:15 | Zoom |

Almost constantly people are exposed to the opinions of others. Opinions of the ones close to us, but also to opinions of (unknown) people from far away. We absorb this flow of opinions, views and assertions daily, through our many screens and devices. This exposure calls for an active evaluative attitude in order to assess what it is, exactly, that we come across with and consume. Whose opinion is it? Is it mine or someone else’s?The question arises to what extent we are able to make up our own minds. Doing this would ask for a certain level of resilience towards other people’s views, as to not automatically incorporate or accept them as they are without reflection. Are there any tools which can help us to not only filter the opinions around us, but also to eventually help us make our own decisions? Perhaps a certain notion of independence is needed to adjust or control our susceptibility towards other opinions.

Join us for this interesting workshop, held by Joachim Duyndam, professor of Humanism and Philosophy at the University of Humanistic Studies. During this evening, we’ll engage in active conversation with one another in smaller breakout rooms.

You can sign up until Tuesday April 13th at 11:00 with the following link: https://forms.gle/PVBK2dQfxD1sMKRo9
