Investing is something that banks do, but also something you as an individual can do. It is is a way to make money, or to lose money, but: it is also a way to invest in a better world. One of the most succesful investors is Warren Buffett, based on the amount of capital he started with and what he was able to grow it into. But how did he manage to do this? And what do we need to know to do this ourselves?Sustainable or socially conscious investing is about investing in progress, and recognizing that companies solving the world’s biggest challenges can be best positioned to grow. This can be traced back to the 18th century, when companies prohibited their members to participate in the slave trade. In 2006, the United Nations Environment Programme also launched its Principles for Responsible Investment, which provide a framework for investors to incorporate environmental, social, and governance factors into the investment process. This evening about investing focusses on two questions: how do you invest best, and make money out of your financial capital as an individual? And, what about sustainable investments?
We will talk about this with prof. dr. L.J.R.(Bert) Scholtens, who is a professor at the University of Groningen and among other things an expert in finance and investments. And we will talk with Robert Dykstra, he works at the department of Active Ownership at Robeco and will talk about his work and how the bank invests in for instance, a green economy. This talk will be livestreamed on our Facebook page and YouTube channel and will be accessible for everyone to watch.
