In the Netherlands, but also in Europe, America is everywhere. On the street, on TV, on your plate. Multinationals like McDonalds, Apple, Nike and Pixar, have a lot of influence on what we eat, how we use our phone, what we wear and what we watch. The same applies to certain holidays such as Halloween and social movements like Black Lives Matter and MeToo. But you also see more and more English in our languages, and even our accent is not British but American. This Americanization has brought us a lot, but the question is, are we not going too far? And why are we so focused on specifically America? But also, how did it come to be so, thar our lives are so much affected by the culture that is on the other side of the ocean? This we will discuss together with Professor Frank Inklaar. He is an expert on American modern history.
