Yugoslavia: the history of a conflict that won’t go away

Former Yugoslavia knows a turbulent history. The country has experienced war and ethnic tensions, reunification, and separation. For years, until 1980, the country was led by Josip Tito. President Tito provided some peace, but he could also act firmly. His death had major consequences. Today Yugoslavia no longer exists, but the disintegration of Yugoslavia has still not been completed. The now seven republics still must deal with their past every day and there are still tensions in the region about borders and territory. This can also be seen, for example, in a report made by the NPO (The tears of Tito). During the talk on the 12th of April we would like to find out more about the situation in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. How do the different countries deal with each other now? Why has the disintegration of Yugoslavia not been completed yet? And what will the future bring? We will discuss former Yugoslavia and the ongoing process of disintegration with Dr. Nevenka Tromp. She is an expert on east-Europe, specifically former Yugoslavia, and is professor at the University of Amsterdam.
