Positive psychology: a new movement

Tuesday September 29th 2020 | 20:00 – 21:30| Facebook and YouTube |

Around the year of 2000 a new form of psychology emerged, the so called positive psychology. This movement mainly focuses on positive qualities and experiences that can make a difference for people. It sees itself as an extension of “traditional” psychology, which is focused on discovering and curing psychological problems. It also opposes humanistic psychology, which is based solely on empirical scientific research. During the last two decades, scientists have conducted a lot of research on this new way of thinking. What can we learn from this new vision on psychology? Why was this movement necessary? And how can students benefit from this new way of thinking?

These questions and more will be discussed with Vincent Duindam and Sibe Doosje. Vincent Duindam is Assistant Professor in Social and Behavioural Sciences (UU) and author of the book ‘’Leren Liefhebben’’, about positive spirituality in relationships. Sibe Doosje is senior lecturer of Clinical Psychology (UU), founder of Humorlab and expert on humor.
