Greek mythology has been around for a long time. The stories about gods, demigods and the contact between gods and people have been read for centuries. The stories are still very popular, as exemplified by the success of the new adaptations by Stephen Fry, Myths and Heroes.
These stories used to be believed, but the myths are now used in a different way, namely to paint a picture of the ancient Greek culture and thus to give an insight into the experiences of that time. How did the mythological stories actually originate? Do we still see something from the Greek myths on the present day? And what is the influence of Greek myths on art?
We will discuss this topic with Hugo Koning (lecturer at Leiden University), Eric Moormann (professor at Radboud University Nijmegen) and Jacqueline Klooster (assistant professor at University of Groningen).

This lecture is free of charge. Afterwards we will have drinks at Café Hemingway!
