DIES Lecture
Tue 10 March | 20:00 | Instituto Cervantes
We’re reaching for the stars! But what if we are obstructed from reaching them? In this DIES-Talk, Dr. Claudia Wieners explores geo-engineering as a potential tool to address climate change, focusing on Stratospheric Aerosol Injection. This method proposes creating a thin, reflective layer in the stratosphere to reflect part of the sun’s radiation back into space, thereby slowing global warming.
Dr. Wieners stresses, however, that geo-engineering treats the symptoms rather than the root causes of the climate crisis. How effective is SAI? What risks does it involve? And who should have the authority to decide whether, and how, such technology is used?
